SUSC U17-18 Academy Draw 1-1 With IMG at Florida Showcase

Friday, November 30th, 2012

Jacob Rosenkalt takes on an IMG defender in Friday’s 1-1 draw.

Seacoast United’s U17/18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy drew 1-1 with IMG Academies in their first match of the 2012 U.S. Development Academy Winter Showcase in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.  Hundreds of college coaches from across the country as well as national team scouts attend this annual event that features top talent within the youth soccer program.  All 80 Academy clubs compete in three games each over the five day showcase.

The 18’s will face Richmond Strikers on Saturday, and wrap up against Arsenal FC on Monday morning before returning home to New Hampshire.  The U15/16 Seacoast United Academy team is also participating in the Winter Showcase, facing the same three clubs as the U17/18s, finishing their final match on Tuesday morning.

The lone SUSC goal in today’s match was scored by Wyatt Omsberg (Scarborough HS/Scarborough ME).

In past years, the Winter Showcase has been used as a season kickoff event.  This year is different however, as the Development Academy modified its schedule to incorporate a 10-month season which started back in September.

Along with head coaches Corlton Simmonds (U15/16s) and Ewan Seabrook (U17/18s) on this year’s trip are full time SUSC staff Cathy Costello (Club Registrar), Paul Willis (President and CEO), and SUSC Coaching Director Iain Scott.

Saturday’s matches take place at 11am for the U17/18’s vs. Richmond while the U15/16’s begin their showcase run at 1:15pm vs. IMG.
