GIRLS' DA SPRING PREVIEW

FEBRUARY 2020

Seacoast United Girls U.S. Soccer Development Academy program is about to begin their second spring season in the Northeast Division. The program is U.S. Soccer’s preferred pathway to the National team and has been awarded to clubs who can provide environments which meet the highest standards, empowering players to reach their full potential.

Following successful European models, the DA program constantly challenges players through its individual pathway. The U.S. Soccer Development Academy program is second to none in the United States.

“Since moving to the US in 2011, I have heard many comments about ‘this team being better than that team’ and how important winning is, when in reality, player development is about the individual and not the team,” commented Iain Scott, Seacoast United’s Director of Coaching. “The reason I hold the US Development Academy program in such high regard is because the environment removes the pressure of gaining results. There is a way to win soccer matches; long ball, physical presence. Early developers will ultimately win you more soccer matches at the younger ages, however anyone who understands development will show you the statistics that late maturing players on average, if kept in programs and given opportunities, will rise to the very top.”

Seacoast United’s 2006 and 2005 DA teams have players currently attending US Soccer training centers where talented players from other DA clubs gather to be coached by US Soccer staff.

Talent Identification is something U.S. Soccer has invested in heavily. National staff attend all of the Development Academy showcase events where every game is filmed, allowing National scouts/staff the ability to revisit game footage while searching for future talent.

Colleges and universities offering soccer programs from all over the country are represented at the Development Academy Showcase events which are held three times per year at a single venue over four days. Kickoff times are staggered which allows one college coach to scout multiple games. Current college recruits Erin Flurey (Syracuse) and Allie Waters (Holy Cross) are two players who were recruited by attending DA Showcase events.

The Girls’ DA program will kick-off their spring season this Sunday, playing host to Oakwood Soccer Club. All four age groups will be playing with the U14s getting things underway at 10:00am. The matches will take place at the Seacoast United Sports Complex in Epping, NH. For the full spring schedule, please click here.
