TOURNAMENT RULES

SEACOAST UNITED SUMMER OPEN CUP

FORMAT
Youth: 6v6 (5 field players & goalkeeper)
Adult:  7v7 (6 field players & goalkeeper)
U9-U12 will use size 4 ball
U13-U19 and Adult divisions will use size 5 ball

DATES
Friday, July 24th, 2020:  Boys U9-U19; Adult Open Coed
Friday, July 31st, 2020:  Girls U9-U19; Men's Open; Men's Over-30; Men's Over-40; Men's Over-50

REGISTRATION FEES
Youth: $250 per team
Adult:  $295

ROSTER
Youth:  Minimum of 6 players, maximum roster size of 9 players.  
Adult:  Minimum of 7 players, maximum roster size of 12 players.
All players are required to complete a medical release waiver (electronically) prior to participating.

LEVELS
Youth divisions will offer Premiership and Championship levels of competition.  Adult divisions will offer as many as three levels of competition.

SCHEDULE
Teams will compete in group play consisting of 3 preliminary games.  After the group play stage, qualifying teams will advance to playoff rounds.  All games are 25 minutes in length, running time.

GAME POINTS
Points will be awarded for each game in accordance with the following:

  • 6 points for a win
  • 3 points for a tie
  • 0 points for a loss

Additional points:

  • One (1) point for each goal scored (max 3 per game).  Losing team receives points also.
  • One (1) point for each shutout.

In the event of a forfeited game, the winner will be credited with a 3-0 win and awarded 10 points.
- A game abandoned by a team will result in the opposing team winning.  The final score will be based on the score at the time of the forfeit.
- Teams are allowed 5 minutes from game time to forfeit time.
- No points are awarded if neither team shows up.

Example:  A 0-0 tie will be scored as 4 points for each team (3 points for a tie, 1 point for the shutout) a 4-2 game will be scored as 9 points for the winning team (6 points for the win, plus 3 points for goals) and 2 points for the losing team (for the 2 goals scored).

PLAYOFFS
Seeding after the initial group play stage will be determined based on the number of teams within the division.  

Divisions of 8 (2 brackets of 4):  Each team receives 3 round robin/group play games.  Top team from each bracket will advance to the final.
Divisions of 7:  Teams will receive 2 games.  3rd game for each team will be determined by seeding based on the results of the first two games.  #6 seed plays #7, and #4 seed plays #5 seed in the consolation matches.  #1 overall seed will advance directly to the final.  #2 seed plays #3 seed in the semifinal.  Winner of the semifinal advances to the final to face the #1 seed.
Divisions of 6 (2 brackets of 3): Each team receives 2 round robin/group play games.  Top two teams from each bracket play cross bracket semifinals (A1vB2 and B1vA2) while the 3rd seeds will meet in a consolation match.  Winners of the semifinals advance to the final.
Divisions of 5:  Teams will receive 2 games.  3rd game for each team will be determined by seeding based on the results of the first two games.  #4 seed plays #5 seed in the consolation match.  #1 overall seed will advance directly to the final.  #2 seed plays #3 seed in the semifinal.  Winner of the semifinal advances to the final to face the #1 seed.
Divisions of 4:  Teams receive 3 round robin/group play games.  Top two seeds will play each other in the final.

PLAYOFFS - PENALTY KICKS
If the score is tied at the end of regulation, teams will then proceed directly to penalty kicks to determine the winner.  Teams will go 3 rounds, and if tied after 3 rounds, they will progress through single rounds until a winner is determined.  Players taking the penalty kicks must be chosen from the 6 that are on the field at the end of regulation period.

Tie Breaking Within A Bracket
In the event of a points tie, places will be determined as follows:

  • Head to Head
  • Goal Differential
  • Goals For (Max 4 per game)
  • Goals Against
  • Most Shutouts
  • Penalty Kicks

SUBSTITUTIONS
Substitutions may be made on the fly at any time during the match.

U9/U10 MODIFICATIONS
Defending teams must drop back to the midfield on all goal kicks, allowing opponent to advance the ball into play successfully.  Once the ball is put in play, the defending team may advance past midfield.

ADULT DIVISIONS
Coed teams must have a minimum of 2 players of each gender on the field of play at all times.  Coed divisions will be separated into age/ability.  Competition level will be selected during team registration process.
Men's divisions with age restrictions may only have 2 underage player on its roster.  For example, a team registering for the Over 40 division may only have 2 players over the age of 35; Over 50 divisions allow for 2 players over the age of 45.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
In the event of inclement weather, the Tournament Director(s) reserves the right to modify all tournament rules in order to safely and fairly end the tournament successfully.
