BRUNSWICK, ME - The Seacoast United Phantoms hosted SoccerPlus (CT) Saturday afternoon in a divisional WPSL matchup at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME as part of the Coastal Summer Challenge soccer tournament. Seacoast got off to a great start with a goal from Kelley Griffin (University of Miami) in the 5th minute as she ran onto a great diagonal ball from Emily Castle (Providence) and hit it first-time past the onrushing keeper. Less than 7 minutes later, Seacoast made it 2-0 when Griffin made a pass to Gabby Ransom (Holy Cross) who chipped it over the keeper with a nifty outside of the foot shot.
Seacoast continued to carry the play but missed some opportunities to put the game out of reach. SoccerPlus came out hard in the 2nd half and were level inside of 10 minutes. A penalty kick was awarded in the 65th minute and proved to be the game winner as SoccerPlus held on for a 3-2 win.
The Seacoast United Phantoms women are on the road for their next three games. The first is Saturday, June 25th when they travel to New York to take on the Albany Alleycats. The last meeting between the two teams resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Phantoms.
The Phantoms return home on Thursday, July 14th to host CFC Passion (CT) at 3:30pm in a special doubleheader that features Oxford United in their 2011 Preseason debut, taking on the Seacoast United Phantoms PDL squad at 6:30pm. Both games take place at Exeter High School.
