HAMPTON, NH - For the first time in franchise history, the Seacoast United Phantoms will participate in the 102nd edition of U.S Soccer's oldest and most prestigious national cup competition: The 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

“It reflects well on the program that we are able to compete in the Open Cup as a result of last summer’s success,” commented Phantoms head coach Iain Scott.

The 91 teams competing in the tournament mark the largest field in the modern era (1995-present). This year also marks the fourth consecutive competition in which all U.S.-based Division I, II and III professional teams will participate in the tournament:
•    17 from Major League Soccer (MLS)
•    Nine from the North American Soccer League (NASL)
•    21 from United Soccer Leagues (USL)

The field's remaining 44 spots will be filled by amateur teams:
•    Premier Development League (PDL):  19 teams
•    U.S. Adult Soccer Association (USASA) regional qualifying:  11 teams
•    National Premier Soccer League (NPSL): 12 teams
•    US Club Soccer: 1 team
•     United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA): 1 team

U.S. professional teams from Divisions I, II, and III will enter the competition at different stages of the tournament.  USL teams enter in the 2nd round, NASL teams in the 3rd round, and MLS in the 4th round.

All 19 PDL teams will enter the competition in the first round, set to be played on May 13. The winners will advance for a chance to face USL opposition in the second round, to be played the following week on May 20.

First round pairings will be announced by US Soccer on Wednesday, April 8.

"The Phantoms have recruited quality players once again this year with the hopes of fielding a strong side for the early rounds of this competition," added Scott.

The Seacoast United Phantoms finished the 2014 PDL season as champion of the Eastern Conference's Northeast Division with an 11-1-2 record and received an automatic bid for the opening round of the 2015 Open Cup tournament.
