Phantoms Begin Season With 1-0 Win Over Hydra

May 5, 2012

Seacoast United Phantoms began the 2012 season on a positive note Saturday evening with a 1-0 road victory over Worcester Hydra.  The Hydra are one of three new teams in the Northeast Division of the PDL this season, playing host to the 2011 Division Champion Phantoms in their inaugural match.

With a limited roster due to players completing their academic year at their respective colleges and universities, the Phantoms showed great character to pull through for the shutout victory.  Defenders Brad Hilton, Scott Rowling, Ryan Dunn, and Yannick Kabala very well organized 2nd half, limiting any chances created by Worcester.

The Phantoms' eventual game-winner was scored in the 52nd minute.

The Phantoms’ eventual game winner was scored in the 52nd minute.  Striker Dylan George was forced outside to the touchline by the Hydra defense before cutting back inside and drilling his shot low, beating the goalkeeper to the near post.

Jesse Schram was noted for his outstanding play in the midfield, while Colin O’Donnell was excellent in goal to earn his first career shutout for the Phantoms.

"We gave up nothing defensively in the 2nd half, any opportunity Worcester had came in the 1st 45 minutes," noted head coach Iain Scott.  "Experience gained from last season’s campaign contributed to the result tonight."

The Seacoast United Phantoms return to New Hampshire for their home openers next weekend.  The NPSL squad will face FC New York at 7pm on Saturday, May 12th, while the PDL team will host CFC Azul (CT) Sunday, May 13th at 7pm.  Both games will take place at Portsmouth High School.
