DANBURY, CT - Midfielder Abel Perez was a man on a mission tonight, scoring a hat trick to lead the Seacoast United Phantoms over AC Connecticut 5-1.
With back to back road games this weekend, the Phantoms came away 2-0 and extended their overall season record to 6-0-1. After Saturday’s 4-1 victory away to Mid Atlantic Division FA Euro, the Phantoms spent the night in Connecticut and had a long wait before facing Northeast Division opponent AC Connecticut in Danbury.
On Sunday, the Phantoms wasted no time pressuring their hosts, with Anthony Grant’s header beating the opposing keeper in the 9th minute.
Midfielder Abel Perez picked up where he left off on Saturday (1 goal, 2 assists) and scored in the 19th minute, doubling the Phantoms lead to 2-0 on a counter attack from defender AJ Dubois and Grant.
AC Connecticut would find themselves at 10 men in the 25th minute after a dangerous two footed tackle. The Phantoms were quick to take advantage, scoring in the 31st minute on Grant’s second of the night.
Coming off the halftime break, the Phantoms were issued a red card in the 47th minute when Dubois fouled an AC Connecticut striker going to goal, denying a goal-scoring opportunity. Both teams would now play with 10 men.
Retaliating after a foul in the midfield, AC Connecticut were issued their 2nd red card of the game, as Eckenrode would be sent off in the 65th minute. The home team would now continue with just 9 players on the field.
Looking to keep possession having the extra player, Seacoast caught AC Connecticut yet again on a great individual effort by Perez for the 4th goal of the night in the 72nd minute.
Connecticut would get one back in the 81st minute on a beautiful free kick from just outside the box, beating Phantoms GK Dominic Coleman top corner.
Perez was not finished, as he completed his hat trick by beating the offside trap in the 85th minute for a 5-1 Phantoms lead.
With this latest win, the Seacoast United Phantoms extend their unbeaten streak to 7 games, leading the Northeast Division. In the two games this weekend, Perez tallied 4 goals and 3 assists as the Phantoms outscored their opponents 9-2.
Next on the schedule is Real Boston Rams this Tuesday, June 17th, taking place at Milton High School (MA), 7pm kickoff. Including Real Boston, the Phantoms have 3 more road games to wrap up the month of June before hosting four consecutive home games in July.
