EXETER, NH - The Seacoast United Phantoms wrapped up their regular season with the best record in the division, earning a 5-0 victory over the Western MA Pioneers.
Midfielder and Seacoast United US Soccer Development Academy alumnus Andre Simmond put the home team on the board early, scoring just 11 minutes in. He would strike again in the 27th minute, beating the Pioneers goalkeeper low to the left corner to double the lead.
Striker Anthony Grant would take over from there, converting a penalty kick in the 34th minute after a foul in the box, The Phantoms would carry a 3-0 advantage into halftime.
Battling the scorching heat and a short roster, the Pioneers would continue to struggle as Grant notched two more goals in the 57th and 78th minutes.
It was Grant's first hat trick since last June's performance vs the Westchester Flames. The Phantoms striker now has 9 goals and 4 assists for 22 points, 3rd best in the entire league. Grant can also be found in the PDL top ten within the Goals For and Shots categories.
The Phantoms await the result of the GPS Portland Phoenix/Real Boston Rams match taking place Sunday evening to determine their Northeast Division Playoff opponent. This is the 2nd year in a row that Seacoast United finishes with the best regular season record (9-3-2). Date and time of the divisional playoff are TBA, but should be announced by the end of the week.
