8 Returning Players; New Faces Added to Phantoms Roster for 2016 Season

May 2, 2016

HAMPTON, NH - The Phantoms will have a mix of new and returning faces as they get set to being the 2016 season.  Once again, Seacoast United will field a veteran squad for the 2016 PDL season which opens the first weekend of May, when they play host to Western Mass Pioneers in the home opener at Portsmouth High School (7pm).

In addition to the 8 returning players from the 2015 playoff squad, the Phantoms have brought in several new faces to strengthen the side for this summer’s campaign.

Offensively, the Phantoms need to make up the production lost with the departure of 2015 PDL MVP and Golden Boot Winner Anthony Grant, who has been offered a professional contract by the Richmond Kickers (USL).  Taking the lead role will be all-star striker Alencar Junior, who has signed with the Phantoms after several impressive seasons with Western Mass Pioneers and Worcester Hydra.  A native of Brazil, Junior is a former PDL leading scorer, and has received numerous honors from the league including leading All-Conference recognition.

The Phantoms’ returning midfielders Terence Carter, Andre Simmond, and Alex Ryan, all entering their 3rd season with the NH based club.   New faces include Cayman Islands national team player Joshewa Fredericks and former U17 US National team player Guy Kabala.

Defensively, the squad will be led by solid veterans AJ Dubois and Drou Goff, as well as goalkeeper Dom DiMaggio.  DiMaggio lead the entire PDL in goals against average during the 2014 season.

The full roster for the PDL squad will be announced by the end of the week.

“We have once again assembled a roster that we feel will be very competitive within the division,” commented Seacoast United’s Director of Soccer Operations Iain Scott.

Realignment of the PDL in the offseason has brought new clubs into the Northeast Division.   Competing in the division once again this season are:  AC Connecticut, FC Boston, GPS Portland Phoenix, Seacoast United Phantoms, Westchester Flames, and Western MA Pioneers.  In addition to those six clubs are newcomers FA Euro New York, and Long Island Rough Riders.

Seacoast United has faced these two NY opponents in recent seasons, earning a 4-1 victory in a non-divisional game vs. FA Euro last year, and falling to the Rough Riders 3-2 in the 2011 PDL Eastern Conference Championship game.

The Phantoms expect to face competition within the division in perennial division contender GPS Portland Phoenix (ME), as well as local rival FC Boston (MA).
