Seacoast United Field Hockey Successfully Concludes Its Winter-Spring Season

Seacoast United field hockey athletes were busy all winter and spring training and competing throughout the New England area. Their hard work has shown in their improved skills, game sense, and tournament victories! Thank you and congratulations on a job tremendously done!!

U19s coached by Ross Gorham were very competitive in their National Indoor Qualifying tournament and then came back to our Seacoast Indoor tournament and took 1st in the U19 Elite Division beating the Nomads in an impressive sudden death overtime! They also traveled to Providence College at the end of March where they won the U19 championship game taking 1st in the U19 division! U19 “Navy” coached by Lauren Kenney and Meg Shea finished 4th overall in their Pennsylvania National Indoor Qualifier, then came back to NH to win 1st in the U19 Premier  Division at our  Seacoast United Indoor tournament. The team followed this with a 3rd place finish at UNH’s tournament.  These two U19 teams combined forces for the Northeastern tournament in May and won 1st place beating Cape Ann Coalition in a sudden death stroke off!  Our U19s coached by Steph Walker, Eli Skovron, and Mark Smallwood were highly competitive throughout the New England area. They traveled to UCONN, UMASS, and Harvard competing, playing, and beating some of the best teams in the area, including a hard fought, well played battle against the local Hockeymates. Their hard work and determination was apparent to all at the Seacoast United tournament where they took first place in the U19 Classic Division!

Seacoast United’s U16s were hard at work as well! Both of our U16 Elite teams started their indoor season by competing in the most challenging tournaments, the National Indoor Qualifiers.  Our U16s coached by Liz Lahey came back from the qualifiers and took 2nd place in the U16 Elite Division at the Seacoast United Indoor tournament in February! They then went down to Providence College and were highly competitive in the U19 pool, with one of their games being an 8-1 victory! Our U16s coached by Lauren Hefferan finished 1st place in the Seacoast United Indoor tournament U16 Premier Division! They then headed down to UMASS where they finished 2nd in their pool and 4th overall for U16s.  These two teams also combined athletes and competed at Northeastern on May 2.  At NU they took 4th place overall in the U16 Division. Our U16 Premier athletes coached by Ashley Bergeron and Mike Wellington were just as busy practicing every Sunday and traveling throughout New England to compete. U16s coached by Ashley Bergeron took home the 1st place metals and trophy for winning the Seacoast United Indoor U16 Classic Division. Bergeron’s team was also highly competitive at their tournaments at UNH and Boston College.  Wellington’s team showed strong performances in the Seacoast United Premier Division as well at Harvard University. All of their hard work really paid off at UNH where Wellington’s team won 1st place in their U16 division, a great end to the winter/spring season!

Our U14s and Academy were also making big names for themselves in the field hockey world this winter and spring! Our U14s, coached by Lynne Walker, traveled to Orlando, Florida in February to participate in the 2010 Disney Field Hockey Showcase. Our U14s played a fantastic tournament and dealt with storms and stroke offs like seasoned pros! Only two weekends later our U14s coached by Lynne Walker took 2nd place in a nail biting championship game in the U14 Elite Division at the Seacoast United Indoor tournament. Our U14s coached by Diana Walker played great all day and took 1st place in the U14 Premier Division, earning metals and a trophy.  Our U14s, and a couple Academy girls, coached by Lauren McGrath and Caitlyn Smith…“McSmith”…also had a great day of competition and improvement at the Seacoast tournament and did a great job in the U14 Classic Division.  For the rest of the spring our U14 athletes and coaches combined to compete in tournaments at Colby College, UMass, UNH, and Indoor Action. The teams placed 2nd in both the UMass and Indoor Action tournaments! Our 14s finished out their season with a friendly scrimmage with Coastal and a fun end of season breakfast extravaganza!

Our Academy players coached by Kristin Iarrusso and Mike Wellington had a tremendous winter/spring season! The athletes trained hard every Sunday at Seacoast United and competed in the middle school Sunday league.  The Academy players also took part in a Seacoast In-House Jamboree competing against our U14 teams, volunteered as players and helpers at the Seacoast United Indoor tournament, and cheered on Seacoast teams at the UNH tournament.

THANK YOU so much to all of our athletes, parents, families, and coaches! All of you and your continued support of Seacoast United is what keeps this club great!! CONGRATULATIONS on a great winter and spring Seacoast season!!! As directors we are constantly looking for ways to improve Seacoast United, bring the club to the next level, and help our athletes improve both on and off the field! We have lots of ideas for the future and are always welcome to hearing more! We are very excited to continue working with all of you for Festival, Disney’s 2011 Field Hockey Showcase, Seacoast Tournaments, Camps, Clinics, College tournaments and much more!
