Seacoast United is proud to announce Samantha Carr and Shayna Duffy as Director of Operations and Assistant Director for the Club’s Field Hockey program. Their challenge over the next few years will be to implement new and innovative programs to teach, develop and expand the sport of field hockey in the Seacoast region of New England.
Sam joins Seacoast United after several impressive college coaching experiences. Most recently, Sam finished her third season as part of the Columbia University field hockey program as an assistant coach. Carr helped direct a very talented Lions squad in 2011 that produced a program-best six All-Ivy League selections while producing its fifth consecutive winning season. The Lions also tied for the best conference record in school history at 5-2. In 2010, her first year with the Columbia, Carr helped lead the team to a 10-7 record.
Prior to Columbia, Sam was the assistant coach at Harvard in 2009.  Before her stint with the Crimson, Carr was an assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of New Hampshire from 2006-2008.  During those two years she also served as the site director and head coach for the New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine portion of the USA Field Hockey Futures Program, where she actually coached assistant director of field hockey, Shayna Duffy.  She began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan State University.  From 2011-2012, she was an assistant coach for the USA Field Hockey Junior High Performance Program (New England Region).  While an undergrad at UNH, Carr was an America East first team All-Conference selection in 2003 and was a National Field Hockey Coaches Association second team All-Region honoree.  That same season she was named to the America East All-Tournament Team and America East Academic Honor Roll.  She helped the Wildcats reach the America East Championship final and NCAA tournament in 2000 and the America East semifinals in 2002 and 2003.
Carr earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from New Hampshire in 2004. She completed a master’s degree in kinesiology and sports administration at Michigan State two years later.
“I am extremely excited and honored to be joining the staff at Seacoast United as the Director of Field Hockey," commented Carr.  "The club offers so many opportunities for athletes not only on the Seacoast but throughout all New England.  I am eager to make an impact on the athletes while sharing my knowledge and passion for the game and move the program forward!”
Shayna comes to Seacoast United as a recent graduate from the University of New Hampshire. She attended Dover High School (NH) where she then went on to play field hockey at UNH for two years.  At Dover she lettered in field hockey as well as both indoor and outdoor track.  Her athletic resume includes the following accolades:  National Festival participant, 2007-08; National Futures participant, 2005-08; Class L All-State First Team in ‘08; Foster’s Daily Democrat Highest Honorable Mention Team.  In her career at Dover HS, she tallied 24 goals and 17 assists as a four-year starter. Furthermore, she was a member of Seacoast United’s field hockey program. Duffy was on the ’08 Seacoast United championship team at the National Festival Gold Medal Pool and played under former UNH field hockey head coach Marisa Didio at the ’09 AAU Disney Classic. Duffy was also the assistant Dover Middle School field hockey coach this past fall.
“I am very excited to be able to give back to a program that helped me with furthering my playing experience as a college athlete,” commented Duffy.
