Former Seacoast United U.S. Development Academy player Colin Macdonald was named Don Barsalou Freshman of the Year after his first season at Western New England College.  A defender from West Newbury (Pentucket HS), Macdonald had an impressive first year for the Golden Bears to receive the Barsalou Award, which is presented annually to a first-year WNE soccer player who demonstrates outstanding character, integrity, work ethic, maturity and leadership--intangibles that were the hallmark of Don Barsalou’s exceptional career at Western New England from 1981 to 1984. Macdonald notched four goals to tie for the team lead, while starting in all but six of the squad's 21 games. Half of his goals were game winners, including a 2-1 overtime affair against NCAA tournament participant Westfield State on Sept. 19.
